Duh

I had to have a phone conference with an RN from the hospital where I'll deliver, and while we were chatting she asked me my religious preference, and then she asked if I wanted a priest that worked at the hospital (it's a Catholic hospital) to visit me.

I didn't really know what to say. What would he do? Bless the baby? Baptise her? (Obviously not, but I wasn't expecting that question, and wasn't sure what a priest would do.) When I paused she suggested that a minister from my own church would probably visit me, and I just went along with that while at the same time thinking that my bishop probably would NOT visit me, since...well, why would he?

After hanging up the phone, I realized that I pretty much would have a minister from my church with me, in the form of my husband, who has the same priesthood that our bishop and Prophet both have (obviously he doesn't hold the same keys that they do, but it's still the same priesthood). What a blessing to be married to a man who honors his priesthood and who can call upon it whenever needed. He can give our children blessings, and he will be the one to baptise them. When I want a blessing during my labor, my husband will be right there.

The gospel isn't about restricting powers of the priesthood to certain people. The mission of the church, and what everyone is encouraged to do, is spread the gospel so everyone can have access to the blessings of the temple and the fulness of the gospel, which includes the priesthood. I'm so grateful to have the gospel in my life, and to be married to a man who values the gospel like I do.
