Well, for the last few days (mornings, really) Ian has been waking up around three or four a.m. ready to get up. I bring him into bed with me, thinking he'll calm down when he's around sleepy people, but he crawls all over me, pulls himself up on the headboard, explores Jesse's ears...when I put him in his crib with some toys he just starts crying. He does eventually go back to sleep about an hour later, but when he finally wakes back up around seven or eight he looks terrible--his eyes are all puffy and he still looks really tired.I really really hope this is just a phase.
I wonder how often I will be saying that in the coming years.

wow...good luck with that. Let's hope this "phase" changes quickly...and that the next one isn't so bad.
I hope Eve doesn't do that. Of course, now that I say that, I am sure I have jinxed myself.
Calvin is going through a 3:30 streak this week. Hope your boy is more flexible than ours...but at least he's still in a crib and can't spend his early morning hours redecorating the house with food coloring and sprinkles. He will be lucky to make it to 5 and a half!
After reading your comment, Denise, I thought, "what if she just gets something, maybe a craft or a coloring book, that he can only work on when he wakes up in the morning". Then I realized what kind of behavior that would encourage. I'm glad kids don't grow any faster than they do. It gives us time to adapt.
